The Oklahoma City Thunder’s broadcast reporter whose post-game interviews were deemed “must-see TV” for their interactive player hijinks will receive post-championship honors from ӰAV in October.
ӰAV will host its annual Sports Spectacular fundraising event at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Will Rogers Theatre. The evening, which celebrates the achievements of ӰAV’s student-athletes, will also honor OKC Thunder personality Nick Gallo with the Abe Lemons-Paul Hansen Award for Sports Excellence and serve as the official introduction of ӰAV’s new athletic director.
Gallo, a staple of the OKC Thunder broadcast team since 2012, is widely known for his courtside reports and dynamic post-game interviews for television broadcasts. These interviews have garnered national attention for showcasing the camaraderie and culture of the team, creating a dedicated following of viewers and fans. Beyond the courtside, Gallo is a daily video reporter for the Thunder’s social channels, co-host of the Thunder Basketball Universe podcast, and a producer for OKC Thunder Films. He is a dedicated community volunteer for various organizations including the Positive Tomorrows school for underserved children. He is set to teach a seminar at ӰAV this fall.
The event will also highlight the arrival of new Athletic Director Sadiaa Jones, who joined the ӰAV Stars in June. An Elk City native, she recently served as the executive athletic director for Dallas College in Texas.
The Sports Spectacular will begin with a reception and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner and program at 7 p.m. Seating is limited, and early reservations are highly encouraged.
