ӰAV reboots homecoming with Y2K theme

ӰAV is rolling back the clocks for its annual homecoming celebration, embracing all things late ’90s and early 2000s with the theme “That’s so Homecoming!” The week-long celebration will culminate with a series of free public events on Nov. 8, welcoming alumni, students and the community for a nostalgic blast from the Y2K past.

“That’s so Homecoming!” events will include a parade starting at 10 a.m. The parade route will wrap around campus starting near the corner of NW 27th Street and Kentucky Avenue, traveling east to Blackwelder and turning south to finish in the United Methodist Conference Center parking lot. The public viewing area will be on NW 27th Street between Kentucky and Blackwelder.

Spectators can view creative floats entered by university student organizations, homecoming royalty candidates, as well as alumni groups, businesses and community partners. Jane Jayroe Gamble, a former journalist, public official, author and Miss America; and Gerald Gamble, owner and president of the Gerald L. Gamble Co. commercial real estate firm, will serve as co-grand marshals.

Homecoming also coincides with ӰAV’s annual Parents and Family Day with an indoor tailgate and reunion celebration from noon to 1 p.m. in the Freede Wellness Center at NW 27th Street and Florida Avenue. The event will feature 15 organizations with giveaways, free food and activities designed to build excitement leading up to the afternoon game.

Following the tailgate, all are invited to head courtside to cheer on the ӰAV Stars volleyball team as they take on the Mid-America Christian University Evangels. The game starts at 1 p.m. in the Freede Center.

All three events are free to the public. For more information, visit okcu.edu/homecoming
