ӰAV hosts graduation ceremonies May 3

Undergrad commencement at 11 a.m., graduate at 3 p.m. 

ӰAV will confer nearly 450 undergraduate degrees and 440 graduate degrees during commencement ceremonies May 3 in the Freede Wellness and Activity Center. The undergraduate ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. and the graduate ceremony at 3 p.m.

The ӰAV School of Law will hold its hooding and commencement ceremony May 17 at the Civic Center Music Hall downtown.

Jay Wadley, a music composer and producer, will give the undergraduate commencement address. This year’s ӰAV Outstanding Faculty Award-winner, film professor Bryan Cardinale-Powell, will give the graduate ceremony commencement address.

Joe Homsey Jr., principal of the J.R. Homsey & Associates law firm, will receive an honorary doctor of laws. Paul McLaughlin, a private investor, will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters.

Tricia Everest, cabinet secretary of public safety for the state of Oklahoma, will receive this year’s Servant Leader Award. 

The Freede Center is located at NW 27th Street and Florida Avenue (building #440 on the ).

A baccalaureate worship service will begin at 9 a.m. in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. It will feature a message from The Rev. Mark Y. A. Davies, Wimberly Professor of Social and Ecological Ethics and director of the World House Institute for Social and Ecological Responsibility. 

More about Jay Wadley:

Wadley is a New York-based composer and music producer known for his emotionally rich and stylistically diverse scores. A two-time Charles Ives Award-winner from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, he was nominated for the 2024 ASCAP Award for Best TV Theme for his work on “Franklin” (Apple TV+) and has been featured twice in IndieWire’s Best Film Scores of the Year.

His film and television credits include Charlie Kaufman’s “I’m Thinking of Ending Things,” Ben Cleary’s “Swan Song” (Apple), Heidi Ewing’s “I Carry You With Me” (Sony Pictures Classics), David Mamet’s “Henry Johnson,” “Tell Me Lies” (Hulu), “Before” (Apple TV+) starring Billy Crystal and many others.

Wadley’s scores blend orchestral, electronic and experimental elements, shaped by his background in punk bands, classical composition and electronic music. He holds an MM and AD in composition from Yale and began his career orchestrating for Rufus Wainwright, Mark Ronson and Calexico.

He is co-founder of Found Objects, an award-winning music and audio production company named one of Inc. 5000’s fastest-growing companies of 2020, which provides original music, sound design and supervision for film, TV and advertising.
