The final multimedia performance of the “Cube of Light” immersive art experience will delve into the intersection of light, sound, perception and space.
ӰAV’s art gallery will host the performance, titled “Dolby Atmos Album Experience,” from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 13.
Drawing musical inspiration from modern classical traditions as well as influences such as Daft Punk, Muse, Animal Collective and the “Stranger Things” soundtrack, the album experience invites audiences to slow down, look closer, and experience light and sound in a whole new way.
“Cube of Light” is a post-classical visual album created by Christina Giacona and Patrick Conlon of . Its centerpiece is “1 m³ light, 1999,” an installation composed of halogen lamps, steel stands and a fog machine that transforms light into a tangible art object. Eliasson, globally recognized for his explorations of art’s relevance, challenges viewers to engage with their perception of space and environment.
“1 m³ light, 1999” is on loan from the Christian Keesee Charitable Trust.
The exhibit, open through Nov. 20, is complemented by the haunting images of contemporary artist “Ghost, 2022–2023” series. These platinum prints reveal faint traces of forgotten photographs on the backs of old pictures — a side effect of the platinum photography process. Mattern’s meticulous re-photographing and re-printing of these apparitions breathe new life into old works, highlighting the medium’s self-reproducing nature.
